Parents with young children need to read this if they purchased a Rock ‘n Play. The small sleepers are designed to be lightweight, portable sleeping options for infants and babies. They fold up so that you can put them in the car and then fold back open into a sort of hammock. Parents do not typically use them as a main sleeping area for the night, but as a popular option for mid-day naps.
However, Fisher-Price had to recall these popular products recently after a number of infant deaths. The issue appears to be that some babies can roll in the Rock ‘n Play into a position that makes it impossible to breathe and they then suffocate. They’re too small to get out of it on their own.
It’s not just a fluke that happened to one child, either. According to reports, over 30 children lost their lives while sleeping in Rock ‘n Plays. Issues have been reported for a decade, going all the way back to 2009. The company is now being sued for what has been called a defective design.
One couple had a 12-week old child who they put into the Rock ‘n Play for just “minutes.” Tragically, she passed away before the parents realized that anything was wrong.
This is just one story, but with more than 30 in news reports, there could be additional accounts that have yet to be counted. All those who have lost children need to know exactly what legal steps they can take moving forward after they experience such a heartbreaking loss.
